PAKISTAN SECURITY PRINTING CORPORATION – CAMPUS WIDE NETWORKING
Service Line (Arwen Tech)

Converged Communications is the most efficient service line at Arwen Tech. The objective is to assist our customers in gauging their technical requirements and align their IT infrastructure with

Client

Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC) is the security printer for Pakistan , producing a number of products that require special printing processes and techniques to protect against counterfeiting and fraudulent alteration. It is the leading printing house in Pakistan providing its services to both private and government sector of the country.

It is also working in partnership with NADRA and Pakistan Passport Issuing Authority for the printing of Machine Readable Passports (MRP).

Problem

The problem at PSPC was to interconnect the fragmented buildings and develop a safe and secure network that could function effortlessly.

There was no network infrastructure present and the buildings were operating as stand alone sections. For an organization working at this magnitude, it was inevitable to familiarize itself with technology to reduce hassle in ongoing operations at the same time making their assets – either data or physical secure.

PSPC has been operating its functions at following five separate and distributed locations in their premises stretched over a huge area of around two kilometers at Malir Halt, Karachi .

New Bank Note Factory (NBNF)
Old Security Printing Building (OSP)
Guard or Control room
Medical Center
Executive Office

For added security and maintenance the whole site has been divided into ten separate segments terminating at a total of more then two hundred nodes.

Challenge

Arwen Tech took the challenge with the confidence that it's LAN structured cabling solution was the cost effective, feature-rich, and functional, meeting all the standards of the solution originally favored by the clients. PSPC required sophisticated equipment, in combination with exceptional technical competence to efficiently carry out its business.

Solution

The communications team at Arwen Tech was assigned the task to provide specialized services for the deployment of user required solution. The project scope was to provide the necessary hardware, communications media as well as the installation and support over ten of their distributed segments housed in two buildings at the premises comprising such a huge area. The details of equipment supplied to the clients are:

Cabling
It comprised of all the cables and communications media involved in building network connections among the distributed sites. Mainly two types of cables were used:

3M Fiber Optic
Optical fiber has been deployed at the client's site as a network back bone. Breakup usage of the media used is:

Single Mode Fiber
Single mode optical fiber has been used to provide backbone to the network infrastructure across the segments far away to each other.

Multi Mode Fiber
Multi mode optical fiber has been consumed to support the network across the segments near to each other comparatively.

3M UTP (Copper)
cat 6 UTP has been used as a data communication link or medium among the workstations, servers and switches.

Cisco Switches

3550 12 G is one of the Cisco's top of the line products that have been installed at the project. This multilayer switch would serve the purpose of a backbone switch for the proposed network infrastructure. All the filtering and forwarding of the data packets would be supported by this powerful device. A single component has been commissioned at the main IT office to work in conjunction with the other switching devices at the same time increasing the reliability and integrity of the network infrastructure.

2950 G is a member of the Cisco Catalyst 2950 Series switches, and is a standalone switch with two fixed 1000BASE-X uplinks that makes this device versatile. A total of twelve such components have been installed to boost the network to perfection. These modules empower the network at each distributed segment.

Nodes
More then two hundred nodes have been made available to the clients emerging from all the segments.

Benefits

The technical team at Arwen fulfilled the expectations of PSPC clients by the outstanding performance and dedication. The newly built infrastructure served the organization with more than desired benefits resolving all the data communication and security issues. A few of the benefits that PSPC is reaping are:

Reliable and robust infrastructure to support the activities
Improved controls among the branches
Standardization of business procedures and functions
Exponentially faster data transfer
Reduced lags and delays in operations
